Reverend John Engwall was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa. His family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he met and, in June of 1991, married Teffanie Ann Johnson. Reverend Engwall is a 2018 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he earned the Master of Divinity degree. Since 2018, he has been the pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aiken, South Carolina, and since 2022, the Circuit Visitor of Southeastern District Circuit 18, before being called to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sweet Springs, Missouri.
A “second career” pastor, Reverend Engwall previously served as a police officer for the city of Sevierville, Tennessee (1995-2003), and as a Sheriff’s Deputy for Knox County, Tennessee (2005-2014). He also has worked as an Emergency Medical Technician.
In addition to theology, Reverend Engwall has many interests, including improving upon his semi-adequate abilities as an outdoorsman.
